Photography as Foundation
Photography is the foundation of Steven’s visual practice. It taught him to observe closely, compose with intention, and make decisions inside a frame. He earned a BFA in Photography from Barry University, graduating magna cum laude, and spent more than a decade working across corporate portraiture, architecture, food, aerial, and lifestyle imagery. His work with the Bob Adelman Archives and Pork Belly Times strengthened his understanding of photography as both a record and an interpretation. That discipline continues to shape his AI-assisted and generative work.
Through the Lens
Commercial Photography
For more than a decade, Steven photographed corporate portraits, architecture, food, aerial views, and lifestyle assignments. Each project required a balance of technical control, careful preparation, and responsiveness to what was happening in front of the camera.
Bob Adelman Archives
He worked with civil rights photographer Bob Adelman, cataloging archival material, contributing to book layouts, and helping prepare images for media use. The experience showed him how photographs gather meaning through history, context, editing, and preservation.
Pork Belly Times
As founder and chief curator of Pork Belly Times, an independent arts-journalism publication established in 2013, he photographed, wrote about, and curated exhibitions across Miami’s art scene. The project created a sustained record of artists, galleries, fairs, and cultural events during a period of rapid growth.
Selected Photography Series
Across these series, Steven returns to photography as a way of preserving decisive, unrepeatable moments. Working quickly and intuitively, especially while traveling or moving through live cultural events, he looks for gestures, relationships, and flashes of atmosphere that cannot be recreated. His time working with documentary photographer Bob Adelman reinforced the importance of following curiosity and preserving these moments as part of a larger historical record.
Token X
Made at Ultra Music Festival in Miami while Steven was covering the event for Pork Belly Times, Token X preserves ten fleeting moments of gesture, style, color, and collective energy. Later organized as an Ethereum collection, the series treats festival photography as both cultural documentation and a record of moments that cannot be repeated.
Fotos de Cuba
Created during a 2018 trip to Havana, Fotos de Cuba follows the city through its streets, interiors, classic cars, and residents. The series reflects his instinct to photograph the fleeting moments that reveal a place: gestures, light, and everyday encounters that become part of its visual history.
NFTNYC22
Photographed with point-and-shoot cameras during NFT.NYC 2022, the NFTNYC22 Color collection and NFTNYC22 Black-and-White collection document an early post-pandemic gathering from a participant’s perspective. The images preserve spontaneous encounters, including Squared Yoga, as fragments of a formative moment in digital art history.
